yesterday yh2 and yh juniors and yh's grandma went to visit the 'national AAAA sight seeing' venue, makes pple reflect (if pple bother to) if the grading means anything at all. reflects real badly on the country itself (i think it's not just shanghai's reputation that's at stake here). MOST if not all the interactive displays were OUT OF ORDER. cant say how disappointed yh juniors are during the visit (and grandma's impression as a visitor).
so if you are reading this post and making some plans to tour shanghai in the near future (cant say for sure how LONG they will take to fix it, if anyone bothers to fix anything since they let it deteriorate in the first place), go there if you are really bored with nowhere to go and too much cash to spare.
once again it's ???? out there which is better than any Dolby Digital Surround effect. it's the 15th day into the Chinese New Year and you can find a detailed overview of the Lantern Festival here that traced its history back to the Han dynasty.
and here's a photo of yh3 with his 灯笼 (supposed to be a "兔子灯" but we din managed to get one that's rabbit-shaped).

to mark the end of the cny celebration, here's the one and only cny greeting card that i received via snail-mail this year:

something to cherish dearly :)
????this is the first time i realise how different it is and why the elders said that there is a lack of ????? back where we were. look at the movie clipped (it may take a while to stream and load, BIG 20MB Quicktime file) taken just OUTSIDE MY WINDOW at around 0000hr. it's truly ?????
??does not serve much meaning in the past, but here in shanghai, i have finally found the meaning to this term. could be ????, but the FEEL of today's weather's contrastively good and there's sunshine for most part of the morning and afternoon, and daylight is noticeably longer (just to add to the ????coz i have noticed the daily extension of daylight since the winter solstice??)
what's ??the explanation by our experts from the shanghai meteorological bureau is on the next page ... BUT before that, here's 2 photos to share:

yh3 standing proudly with his first snowman ever!
AND

a view of shanghai outside our window after 5 days of record-breaking snowing.
you can compare it with the 'before' to see the effect :)

a few more photos to mark this SNOWY occasion ...
was reading the copy of nov'07 reader's digest and came upon this month's feature entitled "Living Green" - Ranking the best (and worst) countries". just to capture the ranking for each item of where i am now (sample size: 141):
Air Quality (rates concentration of several pollutants in urban areas): 140
Water Quality (rates pollutant levels as well as other factors that affect water purity): 124
Energy Effciency: 80
Greenhouse gases: 113
Environmetal health: 45
and from another analysis where major cities in the world were ranked (sample size:72) :
Rank: 71 *GASP*
with the above numbers, i'm sure you can easily find out where i am now (in case you arent aware, i'm away from singapore (ranked:45, has a lot of room for improvement too, ????????)), just visit rd's website for the full list. you may have to register (free and pretty fast registration process) to look at the full stats.
24.00 hrs ago, yh4 climbed up a chair and spinned while sitting and down the floor he went, head first!
23.45 hrs ago, a corner has appeared on the head like never before; icing does not quite help
23.50 hrs ago, we preped a barang-barang and catch a cab to take us to Children's Hospital of Fudan University.
23.00 hrs ago, we saw a bone specialist (aka "????") and he suggested for yh4 to do a CT scan.
22.45hrs ago, yh4 took a jab that's supposed to send him to nap so that he can do the scan; alas, the CT scan has to be taken at Zhong Shan Hospital 10 mins away. and to return to CHFU after that with the film. *duh*
22.50 hrs ago, we reached ZSH, paid up to get ready for the scan. only one problem left, yh4 is still wide awake and playing away.
22.30 hrs ago, yh4 is still wide awake.
22.00 hrs ago, yh4 is still wide awake.
21.30 hrs ago, yh4 is still awake; yh3 has fallen asleep.
21.00 hrs ago, yh4 is still awake. we make our way back to CHFU for doctor to advise on the situation.
20.45 hrs ago, we were back at CHFU, and doctor is down in an operation. he advised to wait for yh4 to sleep then proceed for the scan.
20.30 hrs ago, yh4 is still awake.
20.15 hrs ago, yh4 is still awake.
20.00 hrs ago, yh4 is still awake.
19.45 hrs ago, yh4 finally fell asleep, and yh2 brought him back to ZSH while yh1 stayed back to look after yh3.
19.00 hrs ago, yh2 is back with the scan. mission accomplished. doctor still in OT.
18.30 hrs ago, doctor's finally back to examine the scanned image. yh4's lucky to have not suffered any serious damage from the fall. we were asked to come home and monitor yh4's condition for the next 3 days.
18.00 hrs ago, we were back home, carrying both yh3 n yh4 asleep in our arms.
17.30 hrs ago, settled everything and finally it's our turn to sleep.
here's a few pictures taken today, 1 in the afternoon to show the injury, 2 after dinner to show yh4 playing with the CT scan, and a closeup of the damage from the fall.
what an adventure, one that yh1 n yh2 will not miss; yh4 seems to forget abt the "??"and was jumping up and down like before. wat to do, that's children huh?

it's one month and three days to be exact. the YHs came to shanghai one month ago towing some 70+ kg of luggages and lugging yh3 & 4 who's total weight amt to abt 25kg. the first few days we had survived in wensen's apartment. thanks and grateful for his willingness to risk the structural integrity of the place with yh3 & 4 around :O
for the first two weeks, it's like playing RPGs. u need to first collect artifact #1, then proceed to location two to get artifact #2 before you can unlock secret door one to retrieve artifact #3, which will in turn reveals the next part of your quest. of coz in our case, the quest is already known way before hand, except the random encounters common in rpg adds EXCITEMENT to life from time to time. dun feel like recalling wat the artifacts are, but in any case, i have gotten the two final quest items by yesterday, one is called ???????? and the other is the ???. both of them have an expiry date tagged, and another round of quests will take place in about 5 mths time i guess :| you cant imagine the sianness when i think of that, so better put that aside now.
where study is concerned, we have managed to find yh3 a nursery to join. it's difficult to find a place to study here in shanghai. probably we din received training in some tactics or something. his school starts from 0830-1630 on ????? and till 1700 on???. so on most days yh2 is the one who sent yh3 to school and back. for me, i had signed up for 7 modules this semester. still trying to adapt to a student's life, except it's now studying with yh3 and yh4 around. it's almost impossible to find time to study during the day. peace only sets in when they are asleep. books & readings are piling, assignments are piling, may buddha/god/allah bless us all :O
the one most difficult thing that's we are still trying to grapple with is the WEATHER. for once in life, weather forecast become so important! it's quite easy to ?? and get sick here coz it can be very warm in the morning, and after the rain sets in in the afternoon, it's very cold, plus the fact that it's super windy here, so it adds to the coldness. and if it rains for a few days, you feel like you are living in a fridge while indoors, and any reason to stay put and not move is welcome :O
it'll soon be national day and national day holiday ????? here. the government has advanced working days from 4/10 and 5/10 to 29/9 and 30/9 so that pple can take a whole week's break. so for me, i'll be attending thursday lesson today, and friday lesson tomorrow, and it'll be one week's break in school.
that's about all i feel like writing for now. will pick up to write some more soon i hope :)
weather here's not as predictable as back home. it was sunny over the weekend, and *boom* out of a sudden (to me perhaps) a typhoon's approaching fast. it was yellow alert for wind and blue alert for rain yesterday morning and the levels were escalated to amber for both. shanghai authority has ordered schools (K-12) to stop for one day. perhaps university students can judge for themselves so it's not in the list. more detailed reports can be found here, here, and more. according to the latest news, Typhoon Wipha "韦帕" has been DOWNGRADED, which is great news! the effect to things is still great as you can read from these:
- "??"???????????
- ????????????
- ???????????
- ????????????
- "??"???????13?
- ????????????
- ??????????"??"
which are some headlines off ????'s web.
this is my first encounter with an typhoon approaching this lifetime, not in the face, but the wind's surely strong and the rain's surely heavy. and the temperature takes an obvious dip (esp wif the many hot days prior to this). still have a lesson this afternoon, hope the rain dun come in too soon :O
